Government websites are a unique animal. Often very conservative, they leave little room for cutting-edge adaptations of new technologies, colors, or design trends. But at the same time, they are a wealth of information and a design challenge from a usability and information architecture perspective. Many of the sites I've worked with have been redesigns of existing sites, which can be even more challenging. Not all of these have been realized, but I've kept the prototypes for posterity and inspiration.
