Letters to the editor, letters to members of the City Council, letters to various oversight board and agencies. Such is the life of an "activist." I did not deign to be an activist, but when you buy a house in the center of the political world, you're bound to get "involved." And this city has more things to get "involved" in than you can imagine. As a community, we're always fighting for or against something, from a proposed halfway house for 200 pre-trial offenders to a suburban-style gas station trying to plop down in the midst of a down-on-its-luck commercial strip. "The pen is mightier than the sword," a wise soul once said. I hope that some of these letters are persuasive enough to make a difference. We'll see.

The first salvo in a series of letters denouncing a proposed expansion of a gas station in my 'hood. |
The next round, this time to the zoning commission for the city. |
An editorial to the Washington Post, which, to my knowledge, never ran. |
A piece published in the Washington Post in May 2001 (while I was on vacation!). |
